GRATITUDE
Every great voice begins with gratitude. It may not seem like the premiere vocal advise, but gratitude promotes immeasurable growth. Gratitude returns our focus to the stewardship of what we already have, and takes our focus off of worrying about what we don’t have.
Every great voice begins with gratitude.
When we’re grateful for what we have, we draw more of the same to ourselves. With gratitude, we stop listening to the voices that say we don’t have what it takes and begin to believe that what we already have is exactly what it takes. With this mindset, we’ll do the best we can with what we have, we’ll seek to grow our ability in a healthy way, and we’ll begin to take new risks, confident that we’ll succeed at whatever we endeavor to do. Gratitude can be the difference between giving up on our dreams, and flourishing in an area that was waiting for us to arrive.
what we already have is exactly what it takes.
With social media and its influence constantly growing, it’s easy to look at the highlights of someone’s life and desire it for ourselves. We may see another singer’s success or skill level and start to feel like we’ll never measure up. This can cause us to cast a negative shadow over our dreams, stopping them dead in their tracks. We replace innovation with isolation and trade vision for hopelessness.
When we’re grateful for what we have, we worry far less about what someone else has because we’re too busy dreaming about our own future. If we could see what the future our gratitude-filled life truly holds, we wouldn’t spend a second wanting anything else, we’d steward what we have until that future became our present.
When we’re grateful for what we have, we worry far less about what someone else has.
Gratitude isn’t complacency, but excellence. When we’re grateful for what we have, we engage it differently. We start to work with the pieces we have until they become the best version of themselves. We move toward excellence every day. For a singer, excellence may look like a made up mind to do vocal workouts regularly, find new crowds to sing to, or stepping out of your comfort zones and vocal habits. To get better, you don’t have to do everything, just do something. Excellence isn’t perfection, it’s doing the very best you can with what you have.
Gratitude isn’t complacency, but excellence.
What you have is what it takes! Your sound, the way you present it, and the people you influence are all unique. There’s only one you. Don’t waste anymore time dreaming about what you don’t have. Be grateful for what you do have and steward it with excellence until your dream becomes reality.
