ALLOW ME TO INTRODUCE MYSELF

Welcome to Vocal Booth! I’m Jeremiah, founder of Vocal Booth along with my wife, Keri. As a singer, songwriter, and musician, I’ve spent years singing and performing with multiple groups in various places around the world. What was always troubling to me is that my voice was rarely the same quality from one performance to the next. At times it wasn’t even there at all. I struggled to find sufficient methods for sustainable vocal ability and stewardship.

I struggled to find sufficient methods for sustainable vocal ability and stewardship.

As I reflect on my journey, I’m filled with gratitude for all the friends, leaders, and mentors that taught and encouraged me along the way. A few leaders in high school gave me solos that pushed me beyond my comfort zone. Leaders in college gave me the opportunity to sing unfamiliar styles of music that helped me grow my repertoire and expand my range. I would practice harmonizing with close friends and songs on the radio and mimic what I heard other singers do. It was to my benefit that, through it all, I was able to learn how to grow with confidence and reassurance from a supportive community. Even with such great support in high school, college, and beyond, I don’t remember a time where any one person taught me how to properly support my voice with solid technique.

In my late twenties, I was asked to do a tour and live recording in Asia with a group that I’d been traveling with for years. I remember being so excited and grateful for the opportunity. The flight was somewhere around twelve hours and despite the jet lag, we hit the ground running. The experience of being in another country and singing with a group of friends was electric. Finding harmonies, rehearsing songs, practicing dance moves, laughing, and getting little sleep was a daily occurrence. Not knowing how to properly take care of my voice, I sang with everything I had, every chance I got. After seven days of rehearsals, it was time to capture the live recording. The only problem was, I had no voice.

Not knowing how to properly take care of my voice, I sang with everything I had, every chance I got.

Most vocalists are born with raw talent. Their social experiences, singing opportunities, cultural background, and popular music shape and train their voice as they develop. Much like my story, they mimic the style of their favorite singer, straining to hit the high notes; they place tension on their voice to squeeze out the vocal runs; they lack breath support when trying to sustain notes. Little do they know, they’re ruining their voice with every unsupported note they sing.

They’re ruining their voice with every unsupported note they sing.

That week in Asia, I learned that the quality of my sound could only be sustained by the quality of my preparation. My voice will never be greater than the technique I use to sustain it. Losing my voice was a warning from my vocal folds to stop doing whatever I was doing, immediately. I could respond to that warning by drinking hot water with lemon, eating cough drops, and breathing in steam, but those would just be temporary fixes. The true solution to this warning was to discover how to prevent my voice from ever hurting and going away again.

My voice will never be greater than the technique I use to sustain it.

I eventually got my voice back and was able to finish the tour, but I knew I needed to find a sustainable solution to vocal pain, loss, tension, and inconsistency. After a few bad vocal tips, YouTube videos, Spotify playlists, and outdated vocal warmup cds, I knew there had to be a better, more engaging way. I created Vocal Booth for those looking for a better way to learn about their voice, properly train it, and have everything they need all in one convenient place.

I created Vocal Booth for those looking for a better way…

My hope is that everyone who finds and uses Vocal Booth, is equipped with exactly what they need to properly steward their voice and strengthen their vocal ability. There is no doubt that through the app and all its resources, each user will be able to fully release their God given sound. I want Vocal Booth and its workouts to be more than an app, I want it to be a lifestyle for the every day vocal user. Is that you?
